Hojicha

Collection: Hojicha

Hōjicha (ほうじ茶) is a distinctive Japanese green tea made by roasting leaves and stems over high heat, traditionally in a porcelain vessel above charcoal. This roasting transforms the tea’s color into a warm chestnut brown and gives it a naturally sweet, nutty aroma with almost no bitterness.

Though its appearance may remind some of black tea, hōjicha remains a true green tea—the leaves are steamed before roasting, which preserves their antioxidant qualities while reducing caffeine. The result is a smooth, toasty flavor that can be enjoyed any time of day, even in the evening.

Easy to prepare and beloved for its comforting taste, hōjicha has long been a household favorite in Japan, often served with meals and enjoyed by families of all ages. Affordable, approachable, and deeply aromatic, it embodies the simple warmth of everyday tea culture.
