Our Story

Kibō-en (希望園), meaning “Garden of Hope,” was born from our shared love for Japanese tea. My wife, Misaki, grew up surrounded by the gentle aroma of tea fields in Japan, where tea is not just a drink but a way of life—woven into family, tradition, and community. When I discovered this world, I too became captivated by the beauty, craftsmanship, and quiet strength behind every cup.

Together, we founded Kibō-en as a way to honor this heritage and share it with the world. For us, tea is more than leaves steeped in water—it is a bridge between people and cultures, a moment of stillness in the rush of life, and a way to carry centuries-old traditions forward into the future.

Our Mission

Japan’s tea industry, once a thriving cornerstone of its culture, is facing an uncertain future. Rising production costs, an aging population of farmers, and declining domestic consumption have led to fewer fields being cultivated each year. Without new support, many traditional tea farms risk being lost.

At Kibō-en, our mission is to create a garden of hope—supporting small, family-run farms across Japan, protecting the artistry passed down through generations, and bringing their work to tea lovers everywhere. By sourcing directly from these farmers, we help ensure their craft is valued, their voices are heard, and their legacy continues to grow.

Every cup of Kibō-en tea carries not only rich flavor, but also the story of resilience, tradition, and care from the people who cultivate it. Together, we can help preserve this heritage for generations to come.

Our Values

Respect for Tradition – We honor the centuries-old craftsmanship of Japanese tea farmers, preserving techniques and wisdom that have been passed down through generations.

Connection to People – Tea is about more than taste; it’s about bringing people together. Every cup we share is a way to connect across cultures, families, and communities.

Sustainability & Stewardship – We believe in protecting the land that gives us tea. By working with small farms, we support sustainable practices that nurture both nature and people.

Hope for the Future – Kibō-en means “Garden of Hope.” Our work is rooted in creating opportunities for the next generation of farmers and ensuring Japanese tea continues to flourish in the years to come.

Quality with Purpose – We seek not just the finest teas, but teas that carry a story—the spirit, dedication, and heart of the farmers who grow them.
